PowerDash’s product is a platform for managing alternative energy installations. It serves tens of thousands of systems across the country: residential solar, commercial solar, wind, municipal EV charging, and more. As a sustainability enthusiast I was happy to join their team as Principal Software Engineer.
Projects in my first six months included planning and executing upgrades of two major pieces of our application stack: Python, and MySQL. The Python upgrade that helped us adopt new language features, refine our developer tooling, and keep our dependencies fresh. The MySQL upgrade was done using AWS RDS Blue/Green Deployments, a feature including live replication of writes from the old DB to the new, until the moment of cutover. This made the migration of 3TB of data to new server instances much faster and safer.
